I graduated from SMU in 2018, earning a Certificate of Excellence from SASPIO and recognition as the best final-year student in Periodontics and Oral Medicine. During my community service year at 3 Military Hospital in Bloemfontein, I gained extensive surgical experience and exposure.
In 2020, I entered private practice and began placing dental implants after completing courses in basic implantology and soft tissue management. In 2021, I contributed to undergraduate education while preparing for and passing my primary examinations in 2022.
Currently, I am a registrar in Periodontics and Oral Medicine at the University of Pretoria, a position I have held since 2023.

Dr. Swanepoel is a highly dedicated dental surgeon with eight years of diverse experience in both private and public healthcare sectors in South Africa, with a particular focus on oral surgery and implantology. He holds a Bachelor of Dental Surgery degree, postgraduate diplomas in Oral Surgery and Oral Implantology, and a Master of Science in Dentistry in Oral Surgery degree. During his master’s studies, Dr. Swanepoel received advanced training in oral and maxillofacial radiology, with a particular focus on CBCT imaging. His master's research in oral surgery, focused on medical emergency management in dental practice, reflecting his passion for improving patient safety and to assist practitioners with the necessary skills to manage medical emergencies confidently and effectively.

He is certified in Basic Life Support, Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support, Pediatric Advanced Life Support, and Advanced Trauma Life Support, with the American Heart Association and American College of Surgeons, with trauma surgery and emergency medicine rotation experience at Chris Hani Baragwanath and Steve Biko Academic Hospitals. Notably, his rotations at Chris Hani Baragwanath was recently featured in a televised program in Sweden, highlighting the impactful work being done in one of the world's largest hospitals. Dr. Swanepoel is also a proud member of the Golden Key International Honour Society at both the University of Pretoria and the University of the Western Cape, a former National Council member of the South African Dental Association and a member of the African Society for Dental and Craniofacial Genetics.

Currently, Dr. Swanepoel is pursuing his PhD in Craniofacial Biology and Dental Genomics, with a research focus on rare diseases, and is set to commence his Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery degree at the University of the Free State in 2025. Beyond his clinical and academic endeavours, he is a passionate artist, avid reader, and bibliophile. He aspires to prospectively specialize in Maxillo-Facial and Oral Surgery, while inspiring others through dedication, expertise, and a commitment to teaching and continued professional education as part of his professional ethos.
