Born and raised in Pretoria, Dr. Andre Brand qualified with a BChD degree at the University of Pretoria in 1996.

Andre’s career started in Pretoria in a general dental practice. This posting was followed by working with a Specialist Prosthodontist in Bryanston, Johannesburg. Here he was exposed to constant mentoring and learning. During this time, he completed a Post Graduate Diploma in Oral Surgery at the University of Pretoria. In addition, he worked part-time in a teaching capacity in the same department.

After 3 years, Andre and his wife moved to the UK. He initially worked as the Senior Dentist for the Milton Keynes branch of Boots Dental Care. He later had his private practice in Windsor. His fields of interest developed into Dental Implantology, covering all aspects of this, Computerized Dentistry with an emphasis on Smile makeovers and Endodontics. While in the UK, Andre also completed a Post Graduate Diploma in Dental Implantology with the University of the Western Cape.

Returning to South Africa after 9 years abroad, Andre and his family settled in Somerset West, Western Cape. Here he became involved in a private practice, focusing on Implant Treatments, Cosmetic and Digital Dentistry, and Endodontics.

Following the purchase of a Dental Microscope, Andre became passionate about using this in all aspects of Dentistry, especially in the field of Endodontics. Realizing the need for Microscope-enhanced Endodontic treatments, he started to focus on this, subsequently completing a Post Graduate Diploma in Endodontics at the University of Pretoria.

Andre moved his practice in 2016 to Cape Town with his practice limited to Endodontics, offering all aspects of Endodontic treatments on a referral basis. He has recently moved his practice to Stellenbosch to be closer to home and is now in the process of taking over DORP STREET DENTAL.

He is also a founding member of the Cape-Endo Endodontic Study Club and lectures for them. Andre is registered with the HPCSA and a member of the South African Dental Association.

Dr Brand is currently completing a Post Graduate Diploma in Oral Radiology at the University of the Western Cape. He is also enrolled for an MSc in Clinical Endodontics at the University of Ulster.

Dr Sanette Muller qualified in 2003 as dentist from the University of Stellenbosch. She completed
a diploma in Aesthetic Dentistry (cum laude) at the University of Pretoria, South Africa in 2004,
after which she obtained a M.Ch.D degree in Prosthodontics at the University of the Western Cape,
South Africa in 2012.
She was involved in the planning of a new curriculum for a diploma in Aesthetic Dentistry at the
University of Pretoria, South Africa in (2003 – 2004), and acted as the first lecturer in the
presentation of this course.
She has presented papers and lectures both nationally and internationally since 2003.
She has received numerous accolades and prizes for conducting research in various fields within the
oral health industry. During her postgraduate studies, in 2011, she was awarded the Hatton Award
for the best Post-Graduate Research paper presented at the SA Division of the International
Association of Dental Research (IADR) and consequently represented East and Southern Africa at
the IADR in South America, Brazil.
Dr Muller is a member of numerous institutions including the International College of
Prosthodontics (ICP) and registered at the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA),
and was recently (May 2024) invited to become an international lecturer at EDGE (Excelence in
Dental Global Education).
She established a specialist private practice in the Cape Winelands of Stellenbosch, South Africa,
emphasising her fundamental philosophy. She is appointed at the University of Western Cape on a
part time basis.
Philosophy: the fundamental nature of a beautiful smile is the pursuit of synergy between art and
science. I am a strong believer in teamwork and follows a holistic approach. A cornerstone of all
treatment planning is the foundation that was established during my qualification as Oral Hygienist.
Special interest in research, Aesthetics, Lecturing, Prosthodontics, Occlusion, Full mouth
rehabilitation, Bruxism and interdisciplinary approach to ideal patient care.

Dr WP van Zyl grew up in Cape Town and finished secondary education as the Senior Prefect at Diocesan College (Bishops), where he received the Lidderdale Prize for Considerateness; Old Boys Merit Prize for Leadership; and the Roston Franks Memorial Trophy (for compassion, friendliness, sensitivity to others and love of nature) in 1997.
In 2003 he qualified as a dentist (BChD) from the University of Stellenbosch whilst also achieving the South African Dental Association Medal for Outstanding Leadership; the Community Dentistry Prize; and Honorary Colours for Services rendered in Sport.
During his Community Service year in the Vryburg District (Northwest Province), Dr van Zyl helped establish the local hospital soccer team, for which he played as a forward / striker; and served as the joint secretary on the Sports Committee.
Over the following 20 years Dr van Zyl assisted as a locum dentist at over 15 different dental practices (both urban and rural); ran his own practice for ten years; facilitated educational workshops on risk reduction strategies and communication skills for Dental Protection, served as the Assistant Dental Mediator, and completed a postgraduate certificate in Oral Implantology from the University of Pretoria (UP).
Today he works in a part-time capacity at the University of the Western Cape (UWC) in the Community Dentistry and Prosthodontic Departments, is studying for a master’s degree (MSc) in Public Health and serves as a nonprofit (NPO) executive which focus on using music as a means of community upliftment. He has progressed to the goalkeeper position for the UWC Staff soccer team.

I am Dr Marietjie Weakley, a dentist with an unwavering commitment to creating a positive impact in dentistry, particularly in the lives of children. My journey began in 1989 when I completed my Dentistry degree – I have remained in private practice ever since.
My ambitions have always stretched far beyond my practice, aiming to influence dentistry on a global scale. I have actively taken on various roles, each with a deep sense of purpose. I had the privilege of serving on the Board of Directors of the International Association of Paediatric Dentistry (IAPD) from 2019 to 2023.
I am profoundly thankful for the opportunity to have presented and won the bid for the IAPD International Congress, planned for 2025, in Cape Town. This will be the very first time this event will be hosted on the African Continent! I am humbled by the role I hold as Chairperson for this distinguished gathering.
My involvement also extends to leadership within local dental associations. As the Immediate Past President of the South African Association of Paediatric Dentistry (SAAPD), I am grateful for the chance to contribute. Within the South African Dental Association (SADA), my roles have included President of the Gauteng South Branch and National Council member. I was humbled to receive SADA's recognition through the Meritorious Service Award in 2020.
Amidst the COVID-19 pandemic challenges, I played a part in developing the "DENTAL PROTOCOL IN RESPONSE TO COVID-19 Epidemic - South African Practice Perspective". Our team each received a Special Service Excellence Award from SADA.
My ongoing pursuit to establish Paediatric Dentistry as a recognized specialty is nearing fruition. Commencing in 2018 in collaboration with dental schools, this endeavour was acknowledged by the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) and the Higher Education Department in November 2022.
