TOPIC: Kids and vaping - understanding the impact


Vaping among children & adolescents has become a global epidemic in recent years. Research has shown that although there are restrictions to the sale and advertising of electronic cigarettes more and more kids are using them. More conversations on `vaping among kids need to be had to stop the epidemic.

This lecture will discuss why kids vape, the health effects of vaping, the different types of vaping devices on the market, and the role of medical professionals in vaping prevention and cessation.

  • Rutendo Kudenga

    Rutendo Kudenga

    Rutendo Kudenga is originally from Zimbabwe and qualified as a dentist in 2015 at the University of Pretoria. She then went to do her community service in Springbok, a small town close to the Namibian border. After that, she worked in private practice for 6 years. In 2021, she joined the Department of Odontology at the University of Pretoria as a full-time lecturer. Dr Kudenga has a postgraduate diploma in endodontics from the University of Pretoria and a Master’s in Global Public Health from the Queen Mary University of London. Dr Kudenga is passionate about implementing change in the public health system to ensure health equity. Her interests include both prevention and health policy.
