Dr Yash Naidoo is a Dentolegal Consultant at MPS South Africa. He is a former healthcare and dispute resolution attorney, having practised at two of South Africa’s so-called Big Five law firms. Prior to starting his legal career, Yash qualified and practised as a dentist. While practising dentistry full-time in the public sector, he obtained his LLB from the University of South Africa cum laude.

His legal experience includes assisting private and public healthcare institutions in defending medical malpractice claims, assisting healthcare practitioners and institutions with proceedings before their regulators (HPCSA, AHPCSA, SAPC, and OHSC), advising clients in respect of South African healthcare regulations, and assisting foreign-qualified medical practitioners in obtaining registration with the HPCSA.

Yash joined MPS in August 2020 where has been assisting members with medicolegal matters, CPD presentations and articles, and relishes the opportunity to be involved in stakeholder engagements relating all things related to healthcare law and medicolegal.

Peet van der Vyver qualified as a dentist (BChD cum laude) at the University of
Pretoria in 1992 and received several gold medals and awards for academic
distinction. In 2007 he completed a Diploma in Endodontics (cum laude), Master’s
Degree in Endodontics (cum laude) and a Diploma in Aesthetic Dentistry (cum
laude). He completed his PhD degree in Endodontics in 2018.
He is a member of SADA, IADR, Study Group 1, the South African Society for
Endodontics and Aesthetic Dentistry (SASEAD) and the Academy for Microscope
Enhanced Dentistry (AMED). He is the current president of SASEAD and a past
president of the South African Academy of Aesthetic Dentistry (SAAAD).
He is a part-time lecturer in the Department of Odontology, School of Dentistry at
this University where he focuses on research and presenting the academic
programme for the Postgraduate Diploma in Endodontics. Since January 2008, he
has served as an Extraordinary Professor in the Department of Odontology. During
the past seventeen years, he has supervised eleven Master’s degree students and
one PhD student in the Department of Odontology.
At the 1993, 2000 and 2001 IADR congresses he won the Hugo Retief Award for
research in dental materials and was also the recipient of the Floyd Memorial Award
for the best scientific paper published in the Journal of the Dental Association of
South Africa in 1996 and 1997.
He has 191 publications (85 in peer-reviewed accredited journals, 106 in popular
reviewed scientific journals (69 national and 37 international) and eight in dental
newsletters). In addition to 930 lectures/workshops at 493 congresses (822
national lectures/workshops at 400 events and 108 international
lectures/workshops at 93 events), this output makes him a key player in dental
education.
He was on the editorial board of Endodontic Practice (UK) (2019–2020) and is
currently on the editorial board of Clinical Dentistry (UK) and International Dentistry
African Edition (South Africa). He was guest editor of Endodontic Practice for the
March 2020 edition.
He is co-author of a chapter “ProTaper Next and instruments with a precessional
cutting axis in Arnaldo Castellucci Endodontics”, Volume 1.
His interests include travelling and wildlife photography.
