  • Marietjie Botes

    Marietjie Botes

    Marietjie has transitioned from a 20-year career as a practicing attorney in health law and biotechnology to academia focusing on interdisciplinary research at the intersection of science, technology, law, and ethics. She holds the degrees of BProc, LLB, LLM (Intellectual Property Law), and a LLD (Biotechnology Law). Her research interests include the regulation of regenerative medicines (gene therapies and stem cell research), Health Data Governance, pandemic preparedness, digital health technologies, in particular with regard to neuro-technologies such as Brain-Computer Interfaces and their impact on fundamental rights, including online behavioural manipulation and how it shapes debates around digital constitutionalism. Marietjie published widely on these topics, both nationally and internationally, and served as co-editor for the special edition on Digital Ethics for the Humanities and Social Sciences Communications Journal (Springer Nature). She is an elected member of ASSAf involved with the second consensus study on gene therapies in South Africa, and one of the invited experts and co-authors of the SA Country Reports on COVID-19 in which she addressed various legal issues regarding pandemic management.
    As legal designer Marietjie also creates comics about biomedical and digital ethics to create awareness and stimulate debate among a wide variety of people - and in her free time she plays the flute.

    Rafael Calixto

    Dr. Rafael Calixto has extensive training in the field of clinical dentistry. In his almost 20-year career, his professional performance has stood out for his dedication to Restorative Aesthetics and Oral Rehabilitation with Resins and Ceramics. In 2005, he specialized in this area at Unesp Araraquara/SP, one of the most prestigious universities in Brazil. In addition to his clinical post-graduation, he also followed his teaching training, acquiring the titles of Master's (2009) and Doctorate (2013) at this same institution, becoming a lecturer and lecturer and national and international courses.
    All this dedication and knowledge acquired allowed the creation of a standard of EXCELLENCE for its patients and students, without leaving aside the ETHICAL principles that govern the performance of a HEALTH professional.

    With over 20 years in the dental industry, always involved in Dental Education, Dr Fabio Fowler, (BDS, University of Sao Paulo) had the opportunity to interact and learn directly from some of the great names in our field and to experience Dentistry from many different perspectives: from clinical to business, from scientific theory and lab tests to practical applications.
    Dr Fowler has presented about dental materials and techniques in over 60 countries, including courses at international congresses and Dental Schools in Latin America, Europe, Asia-Pacific and Africa. Based in Sydney, Australia, he is responsible for Continued Education at Ultradent Products throughout the Asia-Pacific and Africa regions.

    Dr Maxinne Moses is a passionate dentist dedicated to achieving excellence in composite bonding & rehabilitations, as well as functional dentistry. Her journey began at the University of Western Cape, where she earned her dental qualification in 2016. With over 8 years of experience in dentistry, Dr Max has had the privilege of learning from industry giants like doctors: Didier Dietschi, Christian Coachman, Mark Bowes and Maxim Belograd, who have inspired her to uphold the highest standards of patient care and treatment outcomes. Currently pursuing a Masters in the restorative dentistry, Dr Max is delving deeper into the intricacies of research on direct composite veneers. Additionally, she proudly serves as a key opinion leader and lecturer for iVeneer, contributing to advancements in composite restorations. Beyond dentistry, Dr Max is passionate about the world of wine. She is currently studying for her Level 3 certification at the Wine & Spirits Education Trust (WSET), expanding her knowledge and appreciation of fine wines. For Dr Max, dentistry is not just a profession; it's a lifelong journey of learning and growth. She is passionate about sharing her knowledge and expertise with others, viewing teaching as a calling that brings her immense fulfilment and joy.     Ebrahim Patel

    Dr Ebrahim Patel, better known as “Ebi", has a deep-rooted passion for endodontic therapy and has dedicated himself to the science of endodontics. Ebi obtained his BDS and MScDent (Endodontics) qualifications from Wits University in 2008 and 2014 and has received numerous awards including the Hugo Retief Award (IADR SA), the South African Dental Association Leadership Medal, African Oxygen Bronze Medal, Sid Setzer-Millners Paedodontic Prize, Public Oral Health Prize and Golden key award for academic excellence at Wits. He is currently the Clinical Manager of the Wits Oral Health Centre ensuring strategic governance and operational efficiency to provide effective patient care, in an environment that facilitates exceptional undergraduate and postgraduate clinical teaching and training.
