Dr Shantal Ambrose - I am a mum to a 4-year-old and an 8-year-old. I run a private practice
for 18 years and have been a presenter and faculty member for Dental
Protection for 13 years. I educate my patients towards a preventative
mindset, giving thought to their diet, habits, and lifestyle. I am
passionate about dentists able to boost their businesses and empower
their businesses against ever increasing litigation in SA. As an active
member of Women in Business, I empower school-going females to
provide for themselves and families through entrepreneurship and skills
development through Women in Business projects in Kwa-Zulu Natal. I
am an avid poet and sketch artist. I participate in distributing Christmas
hampers to Paediatric oncology patients at local hospitals in Kwa-Zulu
Natal as well as the Food for Life Africa Programme which distributes
food to thousands of families in need of basic nutrition.

Sandra is a dental specialist in the field of Oral Medicine, Periodontology and Implantology. She studied both her undergraduate and postgraduate degrees at the University of the Witwatersrand. She graduated with a Bachelor of Dental Science in 2009, performed her community service in 2010 and opened up a private practice as a general dentist in Rustenburg for 4 years whilst studying concurrently part time for her Msc in Oral medicine and Periodontology.
She graduated as an Oral Medicine and Periodontology specialist in 2018, and pursued a career in academia thereafter. Her passion for teaching inspired her to pursue a postgraduate diploma in health science education. She is currently a full time consultant at the University of the Witwatersrand and is setting up private practice in Johannesburg which should be up and running in March.
Today she will be sharing her expertise with us, shedding light on the importance of a periodontal diagnosis and will offer valuable insights that will undoubtedly enhance our understanding of oral health.
