Dr. George Babiolakis obtained his dental degree from Wits University in 2014. He went on to complete a master’s degree in Prosthodontics in 2019, along with a Postgraduate Diploma in Prosthodontics. His clinical interests include CAD/CAM technology, digital dentistry, and endodontics.
As a student, Dr. Babiolakis won the Colgate Undergraduate Competition at the International Association of Dental Research (IADR) for his study on the marginal and internal fit of crowns from two CAD/CAM systems. This achievement led him to represent South Africa at the IADR General Session in 2014 for the Hatton Award competition. More recently, he secured first place in the ITI Congress poster competition in 2022 for his poster on Straumann’s Smile in a Box implant system.
After six years in private practice, Dr. Babiolakis joined the University of Pretoria, where he is currently a final-year registrar in the Department of Prosthodontics. As part of his training, he completed the Postgraduate Diploma in Endodontics and has gained extensive experience managing complex endodontic cases. Throughout his registrarship, he has presented various seminars and journal discussions covering various aspects of prosthodontics and related disciplines. His clinical exposure includes working with cutting-edge technology, advanced materials, and modern dental equipment.
In addition to his academic contributions, Dr. Babiolakis has been invited to present in international online study groups, including Digidontics, where he presented a webinar on the potential application of AI in dental radiography.

I received my dental degree (cum laude) in 2008 at the University of Pretoria. I completed my community service year in Parys, Free State before working in private practice. At the same time, I was part-time employed at the University of Pretoria as a session doctor. In 2011, I obtained my Postgraduate Diploma in Aesthetic Dentistry (cum laude) at the University of Pretoria. In 2015, I completed my master’s degree in Oral Medicine and Periodontics (cum laude) at the University of Pretoria. In 2020 I completed a 2-year SAFRI(FAIMER) fellowship and obtained my postgraduate diploma (cum laude in Health Professions Education and Leadership in 2024.

I am a dedicated and enthusiastic clinician and academic specialising in Prosthodontics and Maxillofacial Prosthetics. I am currently an associate lecturer and registrar at the University of Witwatersrand, a member of the Golden Key Society, International Team for Implantology (ITI), MENSA, the Academy of Prosthodontics South Africa (APSA), the International College of Prosthodontists (ICP), and have published a scientific research paper in the Journal of Prosthetic Dentistry (JPD). Furthermore, I graduated with my undergraduate degree cum laude and was the top achiever in my class, receiving Academic Honorary Colours and the Post Graduate Masters Research Bursary for Academic Excellence from the University of Pretoria.
