The objectives of the presentation are to:

· Classify traumatic dental injuries that can be observed in an oral health setting

· Provide clinical management strategies for patients presenting with dental trauma injuries

· Indicate the clinical guidelines to be followed by Dental Therapists and Oral Hygienists when managing dental trauma injuries

    I qualified as an Oral Hygienist in 1992 with a Diploma in Oral Hygiene at the University of the Western Cape. I started working for the Gauteng Department of Health as an Oral Hygienist doing clinical and outreach activities. I joined the University of the Witwatersrand – Johannesburg in 2005 as a Middle Manager and Head of Oral Hygiene. My duties involve managing the oral hygiene department, teaching and supervising Oral Hygiene, BDS, and GEMP students at the university.
    Further studies include BA (Humanities), BA Hons (Development Studies), and MA (Development Studies) University of Johannesburg and a certificate in Project and Programme Management from the University of the Witwatersrand – Johannesburg.
