Habib Benzian, DDS PhD MScDPH, is a Professor of Epidemiology & Health Promotion at NYU Dental College and Co-Director of the only WHO Collaborating Center for oral health in the WHO region of the Americas. With more than 25 years of global health experience, he is a leader in advocating for oral health globally. As an expert in international public health, health policy, NCDs, school health, and WASH in schools, he bridges academia, policy, and practice. He advises organizations such as WHO and UNICEF, and has supported major policy processes at the global, regional, and national level, including the WHO Global Strategy on Oral Health and the Global Oral Health Action Plan, as well as the WHO Regional Strategy for Oral Health in Africa. He was part of the editorial team for the first-ever WHO Global Oral Health Status Report and is a Global Health Research Fellow at Stellenbosch Institute of Advanced Studies, Africa’s premier research institute, researching global oral health governance and political priority setting. He is member and working group lead of the Lancet Commission on Oral health, and received the IADR John Greenspan Distinguished Scientist in Global Health Award (2023), one of the highest awards of the organization.

He has extensively lectured on these topics in the last 20 years all over the world.

With more than 20 years in the dental publishing industry, Kevin Henry is the former group editorial director for Dental Products Report and managing editor for Dental Economics. Currently, he is the editor-in-chief for DrBicuspid.com. He has spoken to dental assistants throughout the world, in person and through the Dental Assistant Nation podcast series, reminding them of the important role they play every day in their practice. He is also certified as a DiSC trainer, helping dental practices learn how to understand each other better through personality assessments and training.

Born in Mexico City, Jordi Manauta graduated with a
degree in dentistry from the Technological University of
Mexico (UNITEC) with major grants. He continued his
postgraduate studies in operative and aesthetic dentistry,
earning a master’s degree from the International University
of Catalonia (UIC) in Barcelona, Spain. Disciple of Miguel
Tames (Mexico City) and Walter Devoto (Italy), he has
developed and currently is developing various materials and
instruments for aesthetic dentistry, dental colorimetry and
photography in collaboration with international companies.
He was named Honorary Professor of the University of Buenos
Aires in 2022, and Global Community Professor of UDEM
(Universidad de Monterrey, Mexico) he is scientific
consultant for two European journals. Dr. Manauta is
member of Styleitaliano study group since 2008. He is author
of the book Layers (Quintessence 2012) and Layers2
(Quintessence 2022) and is author and coauthor of many
publications in international journals, Dr Manauta is
frequently invited as a lecturer in aesthetic and operative
dentistry.

Dr Alasdair McKelvie is a Dentolegal Consultant and Dental South Africa Lead at Dental Protection. Alasdair graduated from Dundee Dental School in 1984. He spent the first 23 years of his professional life in primary dental care providing a range of mixed dental services from his practice in East Yorkshire. In 2005 Alasdair obtained an LLM in Healthcare Law form Cardiff Law School and joined Dental Protection in 2008 as a full-time Dentolegal Consultant. Alasdair is dental service lead for our members in South Africa and Namibia.

DDS (2003) and PhD in oral biology (2007) in Paris Descartes University. After being Assistant (2005) and then Associate (2011) professor in Fixed prosthodontics in Paris, Adrien visited the Klein’s lab (UCSF, 2012-2014) for oral stem cells research.
He is currently full-time Associate Professor at the Faculty of Dentistry, University of Bordeaux, teaching prosthodontics, and more specifically Maxillofacial Prosthetics and digital dentistry to graduate and undergraduate students. He is the Head of the Dental Clinic at Saint André Hospital, Bordeaux.
Adrien is a Principal Investigator at INSERM U1026 BioTis. His basic research focuses on maxillofacial regeneration through bioprinting (soft tissues) and reparation through prostheses (soft palate defects, virtual reality…). Dr. Ben Pliska’s dental training began at the University of Western Ontario, where he was honoured to serve as Class President and to graduate at the top of his class as the Gold Medallist in Dentistry. Following dental school, Dr. Pliska pursued specialty training in Orthodontics at the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis, where he was granted a Certificate in Orthodontics and Master’s Degree in Dentistry. Following graduation, Dr. Pliska was recruited to join the faculty in the Graduate Orthodontic Program at the University of Minnesota as Assistant Clinical Professor, and later happily returned home to Canada where he is an Associate Professor at the UBC Faculty of Dentistry, an Orthodontic Consultant at the University of British Columbia Children’s Hospital.
As a certified specialist in Orthodontics and a fellow of the Royal College of Dentists of Canada, Dr. Pliska is proud to contribute to the education, health, and wellbeing of the greater Vancouver community. He is an active member of the BC Society of Orthodontists (BCSO), Canadian Association of Orthodontists (CAO), and American Association of Orthodontists (AAO). Dr. Pliska’s research interests include craniofacial imaging and sleep medicine.
Dr. Pliska lives in Vancouver with his wife Dr. Roxana Saldarriaga, a local Prosthodontist, and their children Isabella and Sebastian. In his spare time, Dr. Pliska enjoys exploring the outdoors of the lower mainland with his family – on bikes, kayaks, or skis.

Anton Sculean is Professor and Chairman of the Department of Periodontology and currently the Head of the Dental Research Center (DRC) of the School of Dental Medicine, University of Bern, Switzerland.

Prof. Sculean has authored more than 520 articles in peer-reviewed journals, 40 chapters in periodontal textbooks and has delivered more than 650 lectures at national and international meetings.

He is Editor in Chief of Periodontology 2000, the top ranked journal in Periodontology and Implant Dentistry.

Prof. Sculean has been a recipient of many research awards, among others the Distinguished Scientist Award of the International Association for Dental Research (IADR), the Anthony Rizzo Young Investigator Award of the Periodontal Research Group (PRG) of the IADR, the IADR/PRG Award in Regenerative Periodontal Medicine, the Distinguished Teacher Award of the European Orthodontic Society, and Honorary Membership of the American Academy of Periodontology (AAP). He was awarded honorary doctorates (Dr.h.c.) by the Victor Babes University Timisoara, Romania, the Semmelweis University Budapest and the Carol Davila University, Bucharest, Romania.

He is Past President of the Periodontal Research Group of the IADR, of the Swiss Society of Periodontology, of the European Federation of Periodontology (EFP) and of the International Academy of Periodontology (IAP). He is board member of the Executive Committee of the EFP, of the Osteology Foundation, of the Oral Reconstruction Foundation and President Elect of the Continental European Division (CED) of the IADR.

His research interests focus on periodontal wound healing and regeneration, regenerative and plastic-esthetic periodontal surgery, use of antibiotics, antiseptics, and novel approaches such as lasers and photodynamic therapy in the treatment of periodontal and peri-implant infections.

Qualified at the Royal London Hospital in 1995, achieving several awards including The Constance Klein Memorial, The Stafford Millar, and The Malcolm Jenkins Scholarships, The American Association of Endodontics Prize, and the Overall Award for Clinical Dentistry.



After spending 3 years in oral surgery residency in London and a further year practicing restorative dentistry in London’s Harley Street Medical District, he relocated to Cornwall in the extreme southwest of England. Jason practices at Revitalise, Cornwall, UK where his focus is microscope enhanced adhesive dentistry.



His specific interest is direct composite resin artistry and minimally invasive all ceramic restorations and he has presented to dentists locally, nationally, and internationally (USA, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Southeast Asia, and Europe) on this topic.

Dr Annalene Weston completed her undergraduate dental degree and vocational training in the UK and worked in NHS and private dentistry before immigrating to Australia. She has worked across three Australian states, in both private and public dentistry, and gained her Masters in Health Law at the University of Sydney’s Faculty of Law in 2008.

Annalene was awarded a Fellowship to the American College of Dentistry in 2016 and a Fellowship to the Pierre Fauchard Academy in 2019 in recognition of her strong work in ethics and collegiate support. She became a Fellow of the International College of Dentistry in 2020. Annalene works part-time in a suburban dental practice.

Professor Elizabeth Archer, in her role as the Director of Institutional Research at the University of the Western Cape (UWC), demonstrates a strategic approach that provides crucial input to the Rector and Executive members of UWC. Her work is a testament to her multi-faceted skills, encompassing data collection, analysis, planning, decision support, assessment, accreditation, policy development, compliance, and reporting. She also represents the university on various committees, showcasing her dedication to the institution and its stakeholders.
Prof Archer's research focus includes student success in higher education, and she has published over 20 research papers, articles, and book chapters. She has also presented at numerous conferences and has held editorial roles for several academic journals. She served as the editor-in-chief for the 2023 special edition of Perspectives in Education - Adaptable, Resilient and Future-Centric Higher Education, based in South Africa. She was also the editor-in-chief for the 2022 special edition of Mathematics - Applications of Data Mining Algorithms and Big Data Analytics in Education, an international journal. Additionally, she is an Associate Editor for Frontiers in Education, acting as editor-in-chief for the 2021 special edition titled Online Assessment for Humans: Advancements, Challenges and Futures for Digital Assessment. Currently, she is Editing a special for Frontiers in Education: Educational Evaluation in the Age of Artificial Intelligence.
The National Research Foundation (NRF) of South Africa has recognised her contributions to the field. She received the SKYE fellowship and has been involved with the South African Netherlands Programme on Alternatives in Development (SANPAD). Prof. Archer was President of the Southern African Association for Institutional Research (SAAIR) from 2018 to 2019.

Doug Beere is a Maxillofacial Surgeon with 30 years’ experience.

He qualified with a Master’s Degree and a Fellowship from the College of Medicine in 1993.

He did a Fellowship in cranio-maxillofacial surgery at the University of Birmingham in Alabama, USA.

Doug is in Private Practice at St Augustine’s Hospital and is Clinical Director of the Trauma Unit, which is a Level II Trauma Unit.

He is also a Director of Advanced Trauma and Life Support for medical doctors and has conducted over 70 courses over his 30-year tenure in Private Practice.

Doug has a busy orthognathic practice and is also trained in Cosmetic Facial Plastics with Joe Niamtu in the USA.

He is also part-time Consultant in the Maxillofacial Unit at Inkosi Albert Luthuli Central Hospital in Durban.

He has recently given a Paper on trigeminal neuralgia at the National Pain Conference for Pain SA.

Dr Allison Bentley has been seeing patients with sleep problems, both adults and children, over the last 30 years. She ran one of the first diagnostic sleep laboratories in South Africa from 1990 to 1998. After joining Wits University she was head of the Wits Dial.a.Bed Sleep Laboratory in the School of Physiology for 10 years.
She was the founding chairperson of the Sleep Society of South Africa in 1996 and is the current chairperson of the new South African Society for Sleep and Health. She served two terms representing Africa on the governing council of the World Association of Sleep Medicine (WASM). Her interest in research on sleep has seen her supervise more than 30 postgraduate Masters Theses, and 3 PhD students on various associated topics.
She has published articles on sleep and sleep disorders both in the lay media and peer reviewed scientific journals leading to over 30 published articles and two book chapters. She has presented over 40 formal invited presentations at conferences ranging from the International Paediatrics conference and World Association of Sleep Medicine, to local conferences such as SA Thoracic Society and PainSA. She is the editor of Sleep Matters, now in its 14th year, a sponsored publication sent to 2000 doctors quarterly.
She is currently in private practice and runs a home-based apnoea screening company. She recently opened the first clinical sleep research and training clinic in South Africa – the Restonic Ezintsha Sleep Clinic in Parktown, Johannesburg.

With more than a decade-long career that began as a qualified dental technician in 2008, Marius has been at the forefront of digital dentistry's evolution.

After earning his BTech degree in Dental Technology his digital journey started at South Africa's largest Zirconia milling center during the early days of dental digitization, where he gained extensive knowledge in lab CAD/CAM software, lab milling equipment, and lab 3D printing equipment.

This foundational experience propelled him to establish and successfully manage his own dental laboratory. Here, he expanded his skills across guided implant planning, design, and manufacturing workflows, as well as clear aligner planning, design, and manufacturing workflows.

Transitioning into the corporate sector, he thrived as digital dental specialist for Wright-Millners, leveraging his technical expertise to drive innovative solutions. His career trajectory further evolved when he was appointed as clinical support specialist for one of the world's leading aligner brands, representing Wright-Millners. Here, he deepened his proficiency in overseeing case reviews, monitoring, and troubleshooting processes with South Africa’s top orthodontists.

Recognized for his proficiency, he progressed to digital solution manager, focusing on goal-oriented strategies centered around client relationships and feedback, to enhance sales and post-sales service efficiency. Drawing from his technical background and extensive experience, he provides expert guidance on digital workflow integration to promote functional relationships between practices and dental laboratories.

Ahmed Bhayat, BDS, MSC, MPH, M Dent (Community Dentistry), is an Associate Professor at the University of Pretoria. He is the Head Department of Community Dentistry, the Chair of the Postgraduate Committee, Treasurer of the Africa Middle East Region of the International Association of Dental Research (IADR) and past president of the South African Division of the IADR.
He has published more than 50 articles in local and international scientific peer reviewed journals and presented at local and international conferences. He has been invited as a key note speaker for both local and international conferences including the Africa Oral Health Network (AFRONE) in Egypt. He is one of the founders of the AFRONE project which has members across Africa. He has supervised more than ten post graduate students and teaches both oral hygiene and dental students at under and postgraduate levels. He heads an internationally recognized department with various niche areas on research and teaching

Dr Rohini Bisaal is a qualified Dentist, graduating from the University of the Western Cape in 2017. She was also a part of the Golden Key society during her academic career. She is currently in her 6th year of Private Practice situated in Ballito, KZN. With a great passion and keen interest in Dentistry as a whole, she is a general dentist offering treatments ranging from general dentistry to clear braces, smile makeovers and teeth whitening to name a few. Community is a huge part of her life which she builds using her social media presence therefore engaging with and provide necessary dental information on her dental page and works with brands in general on her personal page. She balances her professional life as a dentist and a part-time model/influencer to not only break the barriers of having multiple careers, but still thrive in both. She believes strongly in encouraging the youth of today, especially females, to always aspire towards their dreams regardless of what society may deem correct. Aside from her personal pursuits, she is keen on working with the Young Dental Council to reach out to the young dentists and share knowledge and help with overall guidance and development. When she is now actively working on her careers, loves spending quality time with family, reading, listening to podcasts and going on adventures.

Prof Glynn Buchanan graduated as a dentist from the University of Pretoria in 2010. After spending 6 years in full-time practice, he returned to the University of Pretoria to take up a position as an academic in the Division of Endodontics (Department of Odontology), where he is currently the divisional head and Adjunct Professor. He holds a Postgraduate Diploma in Endodontics from the University of the Western Cape, as well as an MSc (Dent) and PhD from the University of Pretoria. He has published over 30 peer-reviewed articles in international and local scientific journals and holds an NRF C2 rating as a scientist. His research interests include comparative anatomy and clinical endodontics. Outside of the university, he is a founding member and current president of Nexus Dental SA. When not extirpating pulps he enjoys playing squash and guitars.

Sister Letmore V Chigudu, (Letty as she is affectionately known) – Is a SANC registered nurse who qualified in 2007 from Harare Hospital school of nursing, Zimbabwe gaining significant clinical experience in both the state and private sectors as well as NGO’s in both Zimbabwe and South Africa. In 2012 Letty joined the managed care environment as a pre-authorisation nurse and clinical case manager. Her responsibilities involved actively managing the clinical appropriateness and risk (both financial and clinical) of all hospital events and associated healthcare services in accordance with the relevant Medical Aid rules, clinical protocols, and funding guidelines.

Letty then joined MPSSAS as a Case Manager in 2020.She also completed a certificate in Introduction to Medical law from South Africa Law Society. Her duties at MPSSAS involve assisting members with complaints, advising on medicolegal matters and assisting members respond to HPCSA investigations. On behalf of MPSSAS, Letty has been a presenter at numerous CPD seminars and conferences across the country.

Dr Kenny Chokwe qualified with B.Dental Therapy (BDT) and B.Dental Science (BDS) from Medunsa in 1991 and 1996 respectively. She graduated an MBA from the University of Cumbria, UK, in 2013, and later obtained a Certificate in Medical Aesthetics from the American Academy of Aesthetic Medicine in 2021.
With extensive experience in both public and private healthcare sectors across South Africa, the Netherlands, and Australia, she has also contributed to academia by lecturing on Dental Practice Management at Sefako Makgatho Health Sciences University and the University of Pretoria.
Currently, she is the CEO of the Academy of Dental Marketing, where she empowers dental professionals in private practice with advanced management and marketing strategies. Additionally, she is the owner of Dental Day Spa, a dental and medical aesthetics practice.

Dr Jonathan Du Toit completed his dentistry studies at UWC, followed by a postgraduate diploma in oral surgery from the College of Maxillofacial and Surgeons of South Africa, a diploma in implantology from the Implant and Aesthetic Academy/University of Frankfurt, and a Master’s degree from Wits. Dr Du Toit completed his specialist training at the University of Pretoria in periodontics and oral medicine, whilst at the same time completing a PhD from Szeged University in Hungary. Dr Du Toit is the first in 10 yrs to earn a Fellowship in Oral Medicine and Periodontology from the College of Dentistry of South Africa. He is the past SASPIO vice president - the South African Society for Periodontology, Implantology, and Oral Medicine, and past council member for the College of Dentistry of South Africa. Dr Du Toit has to date published 32 peer-reviewed journal publications, and 4 textbook chapters. Being active in research, Dr Du Toit has published in, reviews for, or is on the editorial board for The International Journal of Esthetic Dentistry, Clinical Implant Dentistry and Related Research, Journal of Prosthetic Dentistry, Journal of Oral Implantology, to name a few. Dr Du Toit has had frequent lecture invitations both local and international. Dr Ridhwaan Haffajee is a Prosthodontist based in Cape Town, South Africa. Primarily in private practice at a multidisciplinary centre, Matrix Dental Specialists. Isabeau Joubert is a true Jbay local, attended Jeffreys Bay Primary School and High School Nico Malan.

She qualified with a B.Ch.D in 1996 at the University of Stellenbosch, South Africa. She received the LDS of the Royal College of Surgeons (England) in 2000.

Isabeau was awarded the following prizes at the end of her student career: South African Dental Association’s Golden Medal as the most distinguished candidate of the class of 1996, 3M trophy for the best student in Maxillo-facial Radiology and The Certificate for the best student in the Integrated Course of Oral Diseases.

From 1997-2005 Isabeau practiced dentistry in England, Scotland, Jersey Channel Islands and France.

Isabeau received her Diploma in Implantology from the University of Frankfurt, Germany in 2011 through the Implant & Aesthetic Academy, Cape Town, South Africa, and in 2012 she received the Certificate in Dental Implantology from the University of Pretoria, accredited by the University of New York.

She holds the position of Co-Director of the ITI (International Team of Implantology) Study Club of Port Elizabeth since 2014. There are approximately 20 active members of the Club and she arranges 4 meetings per year for the members. Treatment planning and case discussions are high on the agenda and for at least two of the meetings an expert in the field visits the Club.

Not only passionate about the art of dentistry, she is an artist in real life too which is extremely helpful in this profession, and one of her hobbies is oil painting on canvas, and when there is good surf you will find her in the magnificent world class waves of Jbay.

An accomplished athlete, Isabeau is also a long-distance butterfly swimmer and in 2012 became the first female in South Africa to complete a 2km open water swim in the ocean doing butterfly only, and in 2017 repeated the 2km butterfly swim at Hobie Beach Port Elizabeth in the Ocean Racing Series.

Emma King is an Independent Oral Hygienist with over 30 years of clinical experience and almost 9000 teeth whitening cases to her name. She is a keen lecturer who loves sharing her knowledge on teeth whitening in particular. Emma is the General Manager of Baltimore International, the sole Distributor of Philips Zoom, Philips Sonicare and Waterpik products, an animal activist who runs a Non profit organisation, a kidney warrior and proud kidney recipient!

Prof Karic joined the School of Oral Health Sciences, WITS University in 1994. She completed a BDS degree, 1992, at Belgrade University, Serbia, EU and MSc Dent (1999), and Hospital Management Certificate (2004), Business School, WITS University. Furthermore, she graduated with a Health Sciences Educational Postgraduate Diploma in 2018 at Faculty of Health Sciences at WITS University. Additionally, Prof Karic completed a Mastership in Laser Therapy in Dentistry, from Aachen University, Germany in 2017. Angelique Kearney graduated as an Oral Hygienist at the University of Pretoria. She has been practicing with her husband, Dr Willem Kearney since 1994. She is one of two Oral Hygienists in the practice and is also the Practice Manager. Angelique has an Advanced University diploma in Practice Management from The University of Pretoria, which equips her well in her current position. Dr Pardon Maluleke currently holds the position of Clinical Executive-Stakeholder Engagement at DENIS, and previously held the same position at Dental Risk Company.

Dr Maluleke has been working in the managed care environment for a period of 15 years.

Jerry is now involved in the medical department of MacRobert Pretoria where he is assisting medical practitioners and members of the health care professions with inter- alia clinical negligence claims. However, his practice also involves assisting clients with insurance litigation in general. He is also involved in assisting clients in dealing with the Ombudsman for short-term insurance, as well as mediation of those claims.

Jerry has, over the years, been involved as a representative on behalf of clients in civil and criminal litigation in short term insurance non-motor claims insurance. Jerry has also worked with the Ombudsman for short term insurance in resolving disputes that, in most cases, require a speedy resolution. Part of this process involved, in many instances, informal dispute resolutions which are beneficial for parties involved. Mpho Molete is a Community Dentistry Specialist who holds a PhD in Public Health from the University of the Witwatersrand. She has years of experience as a dental practitioner both in the UK and South Africa and is now currently in full time academia as a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Community Dentistry at the Wits School of Oral Health Sciences. In addition, she is an Adjunct Fellow at the Australian Centre for Integration of Oral Health, Western Sydney University.
Her work involves, undergraduate and post-graduate teaching, supervision, research and clinical service delivery. She co-chairs the Wits-Gauteng Liaison Committee and sits in the Gauteng Oral Health Strategy Steering Committee. She has published in both a local and an international journal and has been a recipient of the CARTA fellowship and NRF Thuthuka awards.
Her research interest includes child oral health, implementation science, monitoring, and evaluating oral health policies and programmes.

Professor Motloba has impeccable experience in academic management and leadership. Acted as Dean of SMU Dental School (2016 - 2018). Appointed as Head of Department and Chief Specialist in Community Dentistry at SMU (2015 to current). He served in senior roles at the SMU and DoH. As a chairperson of these diverse structures, he provided strategic leadership and management, forged networks with participating universities, provincial health departments, private institutions, and individuals. From 2019 – 2022, he served as Chairperson - Oral Health Subcommittee (Council of Medical Schemes) – responsible for the development of the Oral Health Service package under the NHI. He was at the helm of the Steering Committee, Universities Consortium (6 universities) awarded R3.4 million tender (DoH), to pilot and develop models for the HNI. He continues to serve on NHI committees, representing the Dental Deans (Joint committee – SACOMD, SACOHSD and SACODD). He is a member of the current Gauteng Province NHI committee. He has published over 70 articles in peer-reviewed journals; successfully supervised over 26 Master’s students and countless PGDIPs. He holds Master’s degrees: Business Leadership; Epidemiology; and Community Dentistry.

Dr Mulder van Staden qualified as a dentist in 2008 (US/UWC). After a number of years in private practice as a general dental practitioner, she completed her training as a Specialist in Oral Medicine and Periodontics (Periodontist) at the University of the Western Cape (UWC) in 2017.
Dr Mulder van Staden is currently involved in training postgraduate students at UWC and treating patients in private practice.
Dr Mulder van Staden teaches and provides hands-on training in the fields of Oral Medicine, Periodontics and Implantology. She is a module co-ordinator for the MDS Specialization Program in Oral Medicine and Periodontics (registrars), as well as the PDD program in Implantology at UWC.
Dr Mulder van Staden has been an active member of numerous dental committees in South Africa – namely Western Cape Branch of the South African Dental Association (SADA 2009 -2015); Executive Committee of SASPIO (South African Society of Periodontology, Implantology and Oral Medicine 2018 – 2020; 2023 to date). She is also an ITI Fellow, WIN Ambassador, ITI EXCO Committee Member (2023 to date), UWC ITI (International Team for Implantology) Study Club Director (2023 to date).
She is active in research, reviewing and publishing numerous articles in local and international journals. She (together with her husband, Dr Riaan Mulder) currently hold a South African and United Kingdom patent for a novel Dental Aerosol Suction Device (DASD), designed to improve the elimination of aerosols produced during dental procedures.
Dr Mulder van Staden believes in the importance of practicing evidence-based dentistry. She ensures she remains up to date with current international trends and practices by attending local and international congresses.
Dr Mulder van Staden recognises the importance of sharing knowledge with colleagues of all aspects of the dental fraternity. She has been a lecturer on numerous platforms – such as SADA, SASPIO, OHASA, SAAO and the ITI. She has also been interviewed on the radio and contributed to publications in Die Burger.
Dr Mulder van Staden is also very passionate about animals and her patients are not always limited to humans. She has assisted the local vet with dental treatment on dogs. She has even performed periodontal surgery and bone grafting on her own Yorkshire terrier. Together with her husband, their latest animal adventure involved the pro-bono treatment of chimpanzees at the Jane Goodall Chimpanzee Sanctuary (Mpumalanga) in 2018. Here they screened chimpanzees, performed dental extractions and fillings as required. They were also able to organize dental materials and dental instrument sponsorships (from 3M South Africa and Access Dental) for the sanctuary for continued treatment of these animals.

Sudeshni Naidoo is Emeritus Professor and Dental Public Health Specialist at the University of the Western Cape. She is also the Director of the UWC WHO Collaborating Centre for Oral Health. She received her BDS (Lon) and LDS.RCS (Eng) and Masters in Dental Public Health (MDPH) at the University of London and the Diploma in Dental Public Health (DDPH) from the Royal College of Surgeons of England, followed by her specialist MChD degree in Community Dentistry. She successfully completed the Diploma in International Research Ethics at the University of Cape Town and in 2013 was awarded a DSc degree from the University of the Western Cape.

She is involved mainly with post-graduate education and training and her focus of research is on Infectious Diseases and Infection Control; Trauma and Child Abuse; Using Information Technology for mHealth; Ethics, Bioethics and Research Ethics. She has written Ethics, Research Ethics, HIV/AIDS and Hepatitis B vaccination policies, published and presented on HIV/AIDS, Child Abuse, Cross Infection, Hepatitis and Ethics.

Professor Naidoo has presented numerous scientific papers of her research at international conferences and has been an invited, keynote speaker, nationally and internationally on several occasions. She spent many years on the Medical and Dental Professional Board of the Health Professions Council of South Africa, is a Past President of the SA Division of the International Association of Dental Research (IADR), current President of the International Dental Ethics and Law Society (IDEALS) and member of the Preliminary Committee of Inquiry at the Health Professions Council of South Africa.

Dr Yash Naidoo is a Dentolegal Consultant at MPS South Africa. He is a former healthcare and dispute resolution attorney, having practised at two of South Africa’s so-called Big Five law firms. Prior to starting his legal career, Yash qualified and practised as a dentist. While practising dentistry full-time in the public sector, he obtained his LLB from the University of South Africa cum laude.

His legal experience includes assisting private and public healthcare institutions in defending medical malpractice claims, assisting healthcare practitioners and institutions with proceedings before their regulators (HPCSA, AHPCSA, SAPC, and OHSC), advising clients in respect of South African healthcare regulations, and assisting foreign-qualified medical practitioners in obtaining registration with the HPCSA.

I began my career in clinical practice, and I am currently a Sales and Product Line Manager for Wrights Health Group. My experience in both clinical practice and distribution provides valuable insights from both perspectives. Inventory management is essential for developing an efficient, productive practice. With a well-designed system in place, you can take the guesswork out of ordering products. Regular stock audits allow you to see how many supplies you have on hand and how much you use. Audits let you make informed decisions on how much stock to order, so you avoid running out of product when you need it the most. Additionally, inventory management can help save money when purchasing products. An effective inventory management plan allows you to know how much product you need and avoid over-ordering. It also enables you to decide when to order based on expiration dates to ensure you waste as little product as possible. My lecture will provide key points regarding Inventory management.

Dr. Mokgadi Nkosi attained her degree in dentistry from the University of Pretoria in 2013. With a decade of experience in public service, she takes pride in having dedicated herself to serving the community in which she grew up in the Limpopo Province. She successfully completed her Master of Science degree in Endodontics, a field in which she has a keen interest, from the University of the Witwatersrand in 2024. During her postgraduate studies, she was honoured with membership to The Golden Key International Honour Society. Currently, Dr. Nkosi works in the Department of Paediatric and Restorative Dentistry at the University of the Witwatersrand.

Dr Jeanné Oosthuysen (néé Cloete) is currently Consultant: Training, Project Coordinating and Fundraising at the 3D Printing Institute (Pty) Ltd. operational through the Centre for Rapid Prototyping and Manufacturing at the Central University of Technology, Free State.
Jeanné was born in Pretoria, grew up in Middelburg in the Eastern Cape, and matriculated at Sentraal High School in Bloemfontein. She obtained a National Diploma in Oral Hygiene from the University of Stellenbosch in 1979. She started her career as oral hygienist in Bloemfontein in an orthodontic practice. As one of the founder members of REINOR Orthodontic Products in 1982, she managed the business until 1991. During the 17 years of active involvement in orthodontics nationally and internationally, she was invited to several training sessions and sales meetings in the USA and Europe. Dr Oosthuysen started as lecturer for dental assistants at the Central University of Technology, Free State in 1997, where she also completed her Master and Doctoral Degrees. In 1998 she obtained the Advanced Diploma in Oral Hygiene (Orthodontics) at the University of Pretoria (Cum Laude), as well as Expanded Functions in Oral Hygiene at the University of the Witwatersrand. Since 1999 she has been involved in research projects on infection control in dental practices. In 2015 she was appointed as representative of South African Universities on the Health Professions Council’ Board for Dental Assisting, Dental Therapy and Oral Hygiene where she served until 2020. Jeanne is an internationally recognised expert in infection control protocols for oral health care in South Africa. She was a key contributor in the development of the SADA Dental Protocol in response to the COVID-19 Pandemic and co-author of the book, Infection Control Guidelines for Oral Health Care South Africa.

Bryan graduated from the Witwatersrand Technicon in Johannesburg with a Higher Diploma in Dental Technology in 1996. Between 1997 and 1999, Bryan was employed by a couple of dental laboratories, where he gained a wealth of experience and knowledge from exceptional dental technicians in their respective scopes of practice.
In 1999, Bryan opened his own dental laboratory, specialising in aesthetic restorations, as well as removable Cr-Co frameworks & prosthetics.
During Bryan’s career as a dental technician, Bryan has continuously furthered his experience and knowledge by completing numerous removable prosthetics, CAD CAM and ceramics courses, both in South Africa as well as abroad.
In 2015, Bryan relocated to Durban, Kwa Zulu Natal, and began his career at Wrights Dental Supply Co, becoming the Dental Laboratory Product Specialist.
Since 2015, Bryan has actively furthered his knowledge and experience in dental ceramic systems, having attended and completed numerous in-depth hands-on courses, hosted by a range of leading local and international trainers.

Dr Harsha Pillay graduated as a dentist from the University of the Western Cape in 2015. She completed a Master of Medical Science degree at the University of KwaZulu-Natal (UKZN) in 2021. The findings of her thesis, which focused on dental education, were published in a local journal. She is a part-time clinical supervisor at UKZN where she is also involved in preclinical training within the Restorative Dentistry module.

Dr Helét Polson is a private practitioner with a special interest in Paediatric Dentistry. She is the principal dentist at TinySmile Dentistry, a dental practice in Pretoria that provides oral health care for children. She received her Bachelor of Dentistry from the University of Pretoria in 2006 and completed her post graduate Diploma in Paedodontics at the University of Pretoria in 2019.

Bradley Poovan graduated in 2009 from the University of KwaZulu-Natal as a Dental Therapist. He is currently in private practice - and has been at SAVON Dental based in Bluff, KwaZulu-Natal since 2012. Bradly is also a part-time clinical supervisor at the University of KwaZulu-Natal. He is passionate about restorative dentistry and teaching, with an addiction to freehand direct composite veneers. Bradley loves what he does and is grateful to be able to do something daily that changes people's lives for the better. Prabashen Ragasviran is a Dental Therapist Practicing for the past 14 years in Durban, KZN. He founded Catford Dental in 2012 upon completing his Bachelors Degree in Dental Therapy from the University of Kwazulu Natal. Dr Kaveer Ratan Is a restorative and implant dentist in private practice in Cape town. Dr Ratan received his undergrad degree at the University of the Western Cape and a post graduate diploma in Implantology at the University of Pretoria. He is a KOL for GC and a lecturer and dental mentor at Nexus dental as well as an active board member of the south African Academy of Aesthetic dentistry.

Dr Jessica Simpson is a part-time lecturer and dentist at the University of the Western Cape (UWC), where she works in the Radiology Division within the Department of Craniofacial Biology, Pathology, and Radiology. Before joining UWC, Dr Simpson practiced in various private clinics across Cape Town and East London.
Dr Simpson earned her Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BChD) from UWC in 2017. In 2021, she pursued further specialization in oral and maxillofacial radiology by completing a Postgraduate Diploma in Dentistry (PDD). Recently, she achieved her Master of Science (MSc) in oral and maxillofacial radiology from UWC. Her research interests are focused on oral cancer and advanced imaging techniques.
During her undergraduate studies, Dr Simpson and her team won the South African division of the International Association for Dental Research (IADR) competition, earning the chance to compete internationally in San Francisco in 2017.
In addition to her academic and clinical roles, Dr Simpson is the founder of "Root Reviewer," an innovative online radiology reporting business. This platform allows dentists to upload various dental images, including CBCT scans, for expert radiological diagnosis, covering areas such as implant planning, orthodontic evaluation, and head and neck pathology.
Outside of her professional life, Dr Simpson enjoys spending quality time with her husband and daughter, embracing the outdoors, and running.

Mr. Steyn spearheaded the re-curriculation for the training of dental technicians in South Africa, acting as chairperson for the convener Technikon.
Through a process of consultation with all interest groups conducted DACUM workshops in Cape Town, Durban and Pretoria to compile a profile of a dental technician/technologist and from there to compile a new curriculum based on local input and addressing the needs of the local dental technology profession.
1996-1998 Appointed as convener by the Certification Council of Technikons (SERTEC) on the Evaluation Committee for Dental Technology and Dental Assisting in South Africa.
1997-2004 Appointed as member of the South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA) study group, as well as the National Qualification Framework (NQF) charged with the responsibility to specify the outcomes for dental technology and dental assisting.

Mr Dale Towert is the Director of the Research Intelligence unit in UJ’s Research & Innovation Division.

With a career in higher education support spanning almost 25 years, his original background is in Information Technology during which time he obtained a Batchelor of Technology degree in Information Systems and a Postgraduate Diploma in IT Law from UJ. Dale joined UJ’s Research Office to oversee the implementation of a national Research Information Management System (RIMS), during which time he completed an MPhil in Science & Technology Studies at Stellenbosch University’s Centre for Research on Evaluation, Science and Technology (CREST). His focus is on quantitative research analysis & applied bibliometrics in pursuit of evidence-based strategic decision support.

With roots in the scenic University of Stellenbosch, where he began his dental journey in 1999, Dr. van Lierop's passion for dentistry took him across the globe to the Netherlands and the United Kingdom, enriching his expertise in private practice.

After leaving High School, I started my studies in Bookkeeping while working part time at Medicross. Most of that time was spent assisting the Physiotherapist with invoicing and debt collecting. Occasionally, I would assist in the Dental reception. There I got to meet the Dental Technicians that contracted to the practice. I began helping them with correcting invoices, submitting and debt collection. In 2018, I moved from KZN to Gauteng and began working in accounts at....while still assisting the lab techs afterhours with their claims and follow-ups.
Then covid lockdown struck and I was retrenched. It was during this off time that I decided to build my own claiming company, by merging my accounts training and experience with my knowledge of the medical claiming.

Elna van der Ham qualified from the University of Stellenbosch in 1977 with a Diploma in Oral Hygiene and has subsequently done Extended Functions in Oral Hygiene in 2007 and 2013 at the University of the Western Cape.

Elna has been an International iTOP Instructor for Curaden AG in Switzerland since 2014 and has lectured nationally and internationally at oral health and hygiene conferences. She has served as OHASA president for 2 terms and served on local and national committees for the oral hygienist’s association. Having worked in private practice for 45 years in Periodontics and Implantology and currently employed by Enamel Clinic, a unique policlinic with a wide variety of specialties under one umbrella

Elna van der Ham is currently studying at an American Academy in Biological Oral Hygiene.

Dr Christiaan Victor completed his undergraduate degree (BChD) at the University of Pretoria (UP ) in June 2001. During his final year, he was selected to participate as an exchange student to the Dental school of the University of Nijmegen in the Netherlands.
Currently, he is based full time at his private practice in Pretoria where he has practiced since 2002 after completing his community service. Specializing in endodontics, implant treatments and prosthetic rehabilitations.
In 2004, Dr Victor got involved in implant dentistry and attended several local and international implant courses. Among others, he completed a two-year certificate with Prof. Andre van Zyl at UP in 2013, an advanced one-year course in 2015 and a Postgraduate Diploma in Implantology (cum laude) in 2016.
The knowledge he gained about implantology led him to develop a keen interest in Endodontology. As an understudy of Prof. Peet van der Vyver, he completed a Postgraduate Diploma in Endodontology (cum laude) in 2017. Most recently in 2020 he completed his Master’s (MSc) degree in Endodontics at UP , which he passed with distinction.
Currently he is a member of Study Group 1, South African Association of Aesthetic dentistry(SAAAD), SADA, and Key Opinion leader for Henry Schein South Africa.

Prof Martin Vorster graduated as a dentist from the University of Pretoria in 2003. He began his career in private practice until 2014. In that year, he embarked on a new chapter by accepting a full-time joint position at the University of Pretoria and Gauteng Health. In 2015, he completed a postgraduate diploma in Endodontics with distinction, followed by the successful attainment of an MSc(Dent) (Cum Laude) in 2017 and in 2021 Prof Vorster completed his PhD, marking a significant milestone in his career.
Throughout his professional trajectory, Prof Vorster has been actively engaged in academic and scientific discourse. He has presented his research findings both nationally and internationally, with a particular focus on the intricacies of endodontics. Additionally, Prof Vorster is a prolific author, having contributed to over 50 scientific publications to date.
Recently, he made a transition to Cape Town, where he has returned to private practice while maintaining a part-time appointment as an adjunct professor at the University of Pretoria. This dual role allows him to continue his dedication to patient care while also imparting his knowledge and experience to the next generation of dental professionals.

Brad qualified as a Dental Technician from Durban University of Technology and joined his brother Gavin at Ridge Dental Studio. Ridge Dental Studio has been in business for over 30 years. Brad then spent 18 months working in the UK, focusing predominantly on implant case treatment.
Brad is the certified Megagen R2 Centre in Durban, Kwa Zulu Natal. In addition, Brad also holds the positions of Directors of CFast and Myohealth, Kwa Zulu Natal, South Africa:
CFast focusses on straitening adult straight teeth for cosmetic treatments and Myohealth focuses on TMJ pain and bruxism treatment.

Dr Janel Welgemoed qualified with degrees in Dentistry (1991) and Business Administration (1998), both from the University of Stellenbosch.

Dr Welgemoed has been in fulltime private practice over 30 years. Apart from working full time in dentistry she also manages a team of 16 people in two practices, located in Noordhoek and Simon’s Town in the Western Cape.

Dr Welgemoed is a member of SADA, International Team for Implantology (ITI), South African Association of Osseointegration (SAAO), Paedodontic Society of South Africa. She is also a board member of the South African Academy of Aesthetic Dentistry (SAAAD). Dr Welgemoed also serves on the board of Profmed.
